Vessel Safety Inspections

Purpose and Scope

A vessel safety inspection is a systematic and detailed assessment of a vessel's readiness to operate safely and in compliance with international and national maritime regulations. The primary goal is to identify and address deficiencies that could lead to accidents, injuries, or environmental damage. As well as being a prerequisite for charters and insurance coverage, these inspections are often mandated by international conventions such as SOLAS and the ISM Code.

Service Summary

Our comprehensive Vessel Safety Inspections assist in harmonising your modern maritime operation. Going beyond basic regulatory compliance, our tailored inspection ensure that a vessel’s safety management systems, equipment, and crew preparedness are robust and effective. Further, our services develop a proactive safety culture to protect crew, vessels, and the marine environment.

Our inspection scope includes a review of:

  • Safety Management Systems (SMS): We verify that the vessel's SMS is not just a document on a shelf but effectively implemented and understood by all crew members.
  • Auditing of Life-Saving Appliances (LSA), Fire-Fighting Systems (FFS), Pollution Prevention (MARPOL) equipment and onboard Welfare and Work Health and Safety System to ensure they are properly maintained, certified, and ready for immediate use, and to confirm that crew are knowledgeable, trained and skilled in their use.
  • Regulatory Documentation: A review of required certificates, logs, and crew documentation to ensure compliance with flag state and international requirements.

Our Differentiated Approach

Our approach is designed to provide greater value and long-term security for your operations.

  • Training and Mentorship: Our services include an educational component. We work collaboratively with the crew, and providing feedback including active engagements and demonstrations during the inspection, to foster uplift, continuous improvement and safety awareness. We aim to leave the vessel in a safer state than when we arrived.
  • Holistic, Risk-Based Auditing: We go beyond the surface-level compliance of system administration. We use risk-based methodology to identify root causes of potential non-conformities and provide insights that improve the vessel's overall safety profile.
  • Detailed and Actionable Reports: Not  just anybody’s  inspection report, IMC’s reports are not only comprehensive but are also highly practical. Findings are clearly explained, prioritised by risk, and accompanied by specific, actionable recommendations for prevention and long-term safety enhancement.

Choosing our vessel safety inspection services means partnering with a team that views safety not as a burden of compliance, but as a core pillar of operational excellence. We help you move from simply meeting regulations to proactively building a safer, more resilient maritime operation.
